Come spring, cages need to be re-floated.
As opposed to submerging, the process involves raising the cages, releasing the water contained in the floats and replacing the caps.
Some growers handle this by constructing a platform on pontoons to make handling the cages easy and fast. Typically, the platform is equipped with a boarding ramp, hydraulic winch, worktable and re-floating ramp.
In this diagram, we can see the cage being
brought up from the seabed. The floats, when positioned at an inclined angle, will empty quickly.
Re-floating can also be accomplished with commercial boat such as the Carolina Skiff (see below)
